This checklist applies to both Mobile and Remote Online Notary appointments. Most appointments go smoothly when these items are prepared ahead of time. Use this checklist to help your appointment go smoothly and avoid delays or unnecessary stress. If you’re unsure about anything, text or call before booking.
· Each signer must present one valid, unexpired, government-issued photo ID.
· The ID must be physical (not a photo on your phone).
· The name on the ID should reasonably match the name on the document. If it doesn’t, tell me before we meet.
· If you have questions about whether your ID will work, send a message before the appointment.
· For Remote Online Notarization (RON) using BlueNotary, the platform must complete automated identity verification.
· BlueNotary does not accept Military IDs or Tribal IDs for identity verification, even though they may be valid for in-person notarization.
· If you have a state-issued driver’s license/ID or a U.S. passport, we can usually proceed online.
· If you only have a Military ID or Tribal ID, please book a mobile/in-person appointment instead.
· This limitation comes from the platform’s identity verification system, not from Alaska law or the validity of your ID.
· Do not sign the document ahead of time. You must sign in front of the notary.
· Your document should be complete before we meet:
o No missing pages
o No blank spaces (unless the receiving agency explicitly allows blanks)
o All required attachments included
· I can help you understand the notarization process, but I cannot:
o Tell you what to write
o Choose the correct form for you
o Give legal advice
· All signers must be present at the appointment (in person for mobile, or on camera for RON).
· If your document requires witnesses, you are responsible for providing them unless we agree in advance that I will.
· If you’re not sure whether witnesses are required, check your document or ask the receiving agency.
To notarize, the signer must be: - Willing (not pressured) - Aware and able to communicate what they are signing
If I arrive and the signer cannot demonstrate willingness/awareness, I may need to pause or decline the notarization to stay compliant with Alaska notarial law.
Helpful prep for elder/hospice visits: - Choose a calm, quiet time of day if possible - Have any hearing aids/glasses nearby - Limit distractions and side conversations during signing
· Mobile appointments include travel/time and are priced accordingly.
· After-hours, evenings, weekends, and urgent requests may include additional fees.
· Additional fees may apply if:
o The appointment location changes after scheduling
o There are multiple signers or multiple documents
o The appointment runs significantly longer than expected due to missing items or readiness issues
· The document(s) ready to sign (printed if required by the receiving agency)
· Valid ID for each signer
· Any required witnesses present
· A well-lit space with a table or firm writing surface
· Reading glasses if needed
· If you have mobility or access needs, tell me in advance so I can plan accordingly
To keep your online appointment smooth: - Use a device with a working camera and microphone (phone, tablet, or computer) - Have a stable internet connection - Be in a quiet, well-lit space - Have your valid, unexpired photo ID ready - Enter your name exactly as it appears on your ID, including your middle name (if your ID has one). If the middle name is missing, BlueNotary may flag the verification and require it to be redone. - Device note (BlueNotary): Some clients report occasional issues completing identity verification on iPad/Safari. To avoid delays, a laptop/desktop is recommended, with a smartphone available as a backup if needed. - Have your document in the required format (if you’re unsure, ask before booking) - Join the session a few minutes early so we can complete identity verification and start on time.
By continuing to book, you confirm that:
• You have valid, unexpired photo ID
• Your document is complete and unsigned
• All required signers will be present
• Witnesses (if required) are arranged
• You understand travel, after-hours, or extended-time fees may apply
